How to lower a deck?

Hello all.

I'm a diy-er and happy to be here.

How can I lower a deck without fully dismantling it?

The deck is about 6ft tall with some (removable) storage below. I have a pergola and its posts goes through the deck to the ground and I'm guessing that makes it tricky. I want to lower it by 4" and then extend it and include an above ground pool.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Possibly doable, would all depend on the construction.

Jacking it up, cutting posts, blocking, then lowering, not something I would want to do.

How old is the deck, might be better to rebuild the entire thing new.

Is the deck freestanding or attached to the house?

Without pictures or knowing anything about your deck's construction all I can offer is that it probably can be done. How will depend on your deck's construction. This work will probably require a building permit and inspections. Deck safety is taken very seriously these days.

Why not raise the pool foundation by 4 inches? A lot cheaper and easier.

Thanks for the responses. It's a floating deck that's about 7yrs old this year, constructed of pressure treated wood.

On top of the pergola are solar panels, it'll be real problematic to dismantel the whole thing and rebuild.
