Question

I am replacing an old deck on my parents' house and have a question about types of wood and their interaction with each other. I want to use cedar decking with pressure-treated lumber for the posts and joists. Someone at work told me I can't mix woods like that, but others tell me that they have done just that with no apparent problems. Can anybody give me a straight answer? Personally, I don't think it would matter.

no problem with mixing woods I have never seen a cedar deck built with cedar joists as cedar is not as structurally stable as southern yellow pine AKA pressure treated

HOpe this helps-----------josh

Thanks, Josh. That was my initial thought.

I actually built my deck a month ago with treated post and joist, and used cedar decking and railing.
