Deck Stairs - HELP

I bought pre-made stair stringers. 5 steps for a 40 in deck height. I had to add an extra piece onto the ledger to accommodate the stairs given that the first step (coming down) is the deck surface. The ledger is 71/2 inches in height, which is equal to the stringer rise. After attaching the ledger add on and fastening the stringers to the ledger add on, I find that the total run of each stringer isnít square. Iíve got a run of 10 inches times 5 steps should equal 50 inches. Iíve got some that are bang on and some that are several inches short. What happened? HELP!

Thanks. Turns out that the pre cut stringers were poorly cut. I didn't think to check before leaving the lumber yard. The fine folks at Revelstoke credited me the purchase and cut me a great set of new stringers that fit a lot better. The moral of the story...
