Deck Pricing

A friend who is a carpenter is building a 12 x 18 pressure treated deck w/railings for us and gave us a price of $2000.00. Does anyone know if this sounds like a great price? We are first time homebuyers. A couple people told us this was a steal!! Thanks.

I assume that you will have to buy the material, then pay the friend the $2,000 to build the deck. He's charging you a bit under $10/sq.ft. for his labor. Depending on labor rates where you are, that may be a little high or it may be a good deal. (Guess that means it sounds like a fair deal -- at least he's not taking you to the cleaners!)

Now, IF he is including the material in his $2,000, THAT is a steal!

Yes $2000 for labor and materials! He told us not to tell any of our other friends what price he's giving us because it was a steal. So I guess he's right. Thanks for the reply!

$10 a sq. ft. and HE'S providing the material. Just don't forget him at Christmas, on his birthdays, his anniversary, ...
