How much waste on diagonal decking

How much waste should I figure in for decking laid diagonal? The floor design has a parting board running down the center of the deck from the house to the front end. The deck boards will be be laid at a diagonal, fanning out from the center parting board, if that makes a difference.

When I lay the decking diagonally, I add 20%. If the deck will be 10 X 10, that is 100 sq.ft. of decking needed, so I order 120 sq. ft.

Don't forget to bring the joists closer. Using a 2X6 for the decking, you can usually span a max. of 24". But, when you run the decking at a diagonal, you need to reduce the joist spacing to no more than 16". (The decking will still be spanning about 24".) If you are using a composite for your decking, plan on the joists being at 12" O.C.
