Deck Sealants
A friend just stained her deck with an oil based stain and has a water based sealant she wants to use. Are there any compatibility issues with this?
I just finished my deck and I am curious which is the best stain and sealant brand.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
What brand sealant was your friend considering?
There is no advantage to applying a sealer over a stain.
A quality oil stain with some color will have uv inhibitors and have water repellancy. Putting a sealer over a good stain may create a goooey mess if the stain repels the sealer.
The top three oilbase stains as rated by CR are Sikkens, Cabots, and Wolmans F&P. I recommend the Wolmans because it lasts nearly as long and is cheaper than the others.
