Texturing over Panelling &Vinyl Walls
#1
I would like to know what I need to do to prep panelling and vinyl walls before applying drywall joint compound and creating texture on the walls. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Also, does anyone know if I can tile directly over top of my countertop in the kitchen and bathroom or do I need to remove the countertops and use plywood?

I have textured over paneling with good success. Take drywall compound and fill all of the seams and holes in the paneling. You will need to do this several times and sand well between each coat. After that is done and you are satisfied with it being very smooth-spray texture over the entire wall. It will look just like textured drywall. You can also wallpaper over paneling-line the walls first with wallpaper liner and then wallpaper as usual. I have used this method over top of vinyl tile in a bathroom and you would never know that there was tile underneath! (Be sure that you use very heavy wallpaper liner-and that you let the liner dry for a day or two!)
