help with a big wall

I'd like to add something to this wall on either side of the mirror. would it be too much? Any suggestions?

it wouldn't be too much as long as they're in scale. maybe some iron candle sconces? i'd also put something on the mirror shelf that hangs down, like some sort of greenery, for some added texture & to break up the hard line of the shelf. then on the opposite side, something tall.

but first, lower the mirror about 6". it's too high. it needs to "relate" to the sofa more, instead of being centered in the space like a bullseye.

Thanks for the ideas! I was also thinking of candle sconces. The shelf on the mirror is narrow- 2 3/4 inches, but I'm sure I can find a small container that I can add some greenery to. Unfortunately, I can't lower the mirror right now. If I lower it six inches, the holes where the hangers are will show. But I see your point about the "bulls eye" effect!

if you don't want to lower it because of the holes it'll leave, then have enough of the greenery (or whatever) hanging down far enough that it takes up some of that space between the shelf & the sofa.

and then position the sconces where their midpoint is level with the shelf - no higher.

First of all, very pretty room! And I was thinking exactly what the mod already wrote...wrought iron candleholders would be perfect on either side of the mirror

Also...I use LOTS of candles around my home. What I've started doing, so that I can really use them & not worry about drippage (particularly in a case like yours where you won't want candle wax dripping onto your nice sofa), I purchased glass votive-holders that plug into the candleholders, so that it modifies the holder for use with votives instead of tapers. It's safer, and it's also very pretty!
