Unhappy Lighting lamps in livingroom without cords running across the floor to the outlet oh

How do I light the lamps on end and sofa tables without having cords running accross the floor to the outlets. Do or can I string the wire underneath the carpet to the out let or what?????

I believe that this isn't generally recommended due to the fire hazard of the cords getting worn down from being walked on & you can't see the frayed/broken cords because they're underneath the carpet, etc.

BUT, that said, I know that they sell rubber 'tracks', or strips, that are designed to be placed over the cords. So this way the rubber strips (which are slightly arched) take the beating, and not the cords themselves. I imagine that they sell these in home improvement stores, and probably even office supply stores as well. And I'm sure they come in a variety of colors...but rubber's always paintable, too. So you could paint it with a paint made specifically for rubber/plastic, and it should hold up quite well (and blend in better with your flooring, if you want).

that's the purpose of floor outlets. as long as you don't have a concrete slab, i think you could have them installed. (post that question in the Electrical topic) instead of getting 2 of them, one for each end table on either side of your sofa, just get one and put in centered underneath your sofa. of if you have 2 different "L" shaped furniture configurations possible, just strategically put one where you know it will always be hidden under a piece of furniture no matter how it's arranged.

if floor outlets aren't possible, do what Carly said and maybe you can place area rugs over the strips.

but whatever you do, DO NOT RUN ELECTRICAL CORDS UNDER THE CARPET. SERIOUSLY BAD IDEA - - A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD!!!
