We have a bedroom in our house that we want to turn into a library room. It currently has 2 6' bookcases (we'll probably add another) , and a book border using browns, blues, and greens around the top of the walls. There is no other furniture in the room. It is approx. 11x 10 , so it will be kind of cosy....
Here's what we are thinking, but we need something else, and are not sure what...
1. tear up the carpet, and lay wood flooring. ( all other floors in rooms on this level are carpeted with the same carpet)
2. Paint the walls (currently a light gray flat paint), cutting in around the border - but what color? Texture?
3. Purchase either a recliner or a chair and ottoman, ( maybe leather?) and a side table with reading lamp - there is no other light in the room....
4. Replace the laminate white bookcases with wood bookcases.
5. Put a small area rug in.
Too minimal? Weare planning on using this as an area to read in (surprise!), especially at night when we can't sleep, and want it comfortable....
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

your plan sounds pretty good to me. but if it were me, i'd take down the border (which is slightly cutesy & won't even be necessary when you've actually got 3 bookcases full of books), put up crown molding instead (which is very classy), and then i'd paint the walls in a really deep, rich, slightly olivey, green color (but navy or burgundy or dark gold would work too) using a faux marble, suede or leather technique (whichever you think you can do the best). then get 2 leather recliners (so the space could be used as an intimate conversation area for 2 people), either in a brown color (if your woodwork/flooring is brownish) or in an oxblood color (if your trim is white & the floor will work with it - but not if you go with burgundy walls). then get a room sized area rug (at least 5x7) that is very rich in color & pattern.
do you have a desk somewhere else in your home? if not, work one in here. there should be room, i'd think (?) and it would be a perfect addition.
if either of you has any particular hobbies or interests, like hunting or fishing or golf or aviation or sailing, or any neat collections of things like antique clocks or cameras, etc, use accessories & artwork with this theme in mind. this is the perfect room for it, and you'll want to put some knick-knacks on the shelves in amongst the books for interest.
