Advice on a Tuscan feel?
I'm getting ready to redo a kitchen and am wanting to do a tuscan feel to it. I thought I'd do the cabinets in a slate green with a black glaze and the walls to be an amber color. Just thoughts. My problem is that the counter tops are white. We don't want to invest into replacing it so does anyone have any opinions or ideas if that would look bad or and other colors. Thanks

that is a problem! white counters won't work with a tuscan theme, which features old world distressed finishes. i'm afraid you'll need to either change the counters or choose a different theme.
new laminate counters aren't really all that expensive. you might price them.

custom laminate counters are priced by the linear foot. i had new ones made by the cabinetmaker who'd made the cabinets in our house for $30/ft. i didn't price them anywhere else, so i don't know if that's high or low. but i know you can get readymade counter sections, and i'm sure they'd be less. our kitchen is a galley, so we just had 2 straight runs. if you've got an actual U shape, with 2 corners needing mitred, that might be higher.....i don't know.

laminate sheets
I heard you could also just buy laminate sheets and put it over the existing countertops. Where do you find that? That should be even cheaper right? Like I said we're not putting alot of money into the house because we plan on living there 2 or 3 years. By the way I'm a Missouri girl!

depending on the type of edge on your counters....ours was the rounded over bullnose shape. but if yours is the 90-degree squared off kind, you might be able to just lay a different laminate over your existing. you can buy sheets of laminate at the big box stores.
Debbie Travis paints countertops all the time, but i'm doubtful as to how long that finish really lasts. i think she has a website & gives how-to info on the shows she does.
you could even try your hand at tiling them.
but for more how-to's and info on changing out your counters, you might post over in the Kitchens (or tile) topic.
then again, if you're already planning on moving in a couple years, you might as well just tweak your tuscan style into one that would incorporate the white better, and make your life easier!!
