Box lighting in kitchen - stain or paint?

We have maple cabinets in our kitchen and i am planning to make boxed lighting for our kitchen.

it depends. if you think it's a great-looking light and it's trimmed out nicely, stain it. if it's sort of boring & not that great looking (like the fluorescent box light i used to have), paint it white so it blends in with the ceiling more and your cabinets will be the focal point all the more.

if you're really in doubt, stain it first & see if you like it. then you can always paint it if you don't.
