I am in the process of redeocrating my two year old daughter's room. I want to redecorate her room becaue we are planning on having a baby boy soon and they will be sharing the room so it is important that the room has a gender neutral theme. My inspiration for their room is a winnie the pooh border that i found (you can see it in the link here: http://www.imperialwallpaper.com/global/content/findwallpaper/detail.asp?pid=DF059121B#
I love the vibrant colors in the border so i want to paint the wall in one of these colors and the best choice seems to be blue but people tell me that i shouldn't paint a girl's room blue. I plan to incorperate purples and yellows in as accent colors and i want the room to be vibrant because i don't care for pastels.
Does anyone have any suggestions on any other colors i could paint the walls? It's not necessarily the wall border itself that i love but its the colors. please help.

if your DAUGHTER likes blue, paint it blue. why adults impose these color rules on kids is beyond me. "boys can't have pink, girls can't like blue" - good grief!
growing up, my best friend (girl) had a blue room & it was precious. blue can very definitely be feminine, especially blue & white toile mixed with white eyelet or Battenburg lace, or blue & yellow, or blue & green. that border is definitely gender neutral and blue would go well with it and would just be like "sky" color. are only boys allowed to look at the sky????? i think not. you have my blessing. go forth & paint blue.
PS.....another option, however, would be to use the golden yellow Pooh color. not blindingly bright yellow, but a soft gold. then you could use blue (denim or chambray, maybe) for the bedding.
PPS.......yet another idea would be to put the border at the 3-foot-up level, paint green below (like grass) and use the blue above (like sky).
what color is your carpet/furniture/bedding??

Thank you so much for your support and advice for my blue girl's room.
In response to your questions the carpeting in the room in beige and as for furniture, the only furniture in the room now is a natural colored crib but I plan to buy a bunk bed for my daughter and letting her baby brother have the crib. I'm planning on either getting a natural toned bunk bed or in oak (don't know yet) and i'm going to purchase a dresser and paint it to make vibrant and whimsical (I was thinking purple to match the bridge in the border or maybe multicolored). The room is also small (approx. 12' x 10').
The Pooh gold sounds nice and so does the blue and green option. What shade and intensity blue should i go with? At first i was going to go with the darker shade in the sky, then i started to cower and cosidered the lighter shade of blue although i don't want a pastel. is there something in between?
Once again thank you and anymore advice on the room will be greatly appreciated

for starters, please don't get a bunk bed. they are so dangerous, and kids should be, like, 7 or 9 before they sleep on the top, so you might as well wait on that & just get a twin or a junior bed for now. there, i've said my peace on that.
on second thought, the gold won't really give you that much color. i'd go with the blue & green for the most colorful & fun look.
personally, i would buy a Woolie paint roller & use the strongest blue in the border (like that solid border stripe on top & bottom) & white together & go for a "softly mottled fluffy cloudy sky" look for the top.
but if that's too scary (although it's SUPER EASY), i would use the very top deepest sky color in the border (just under the top border edge stripe). don't worry about it being too dark. your floor is light, the ceiling is probably white, and you've got 1 or 2 windows in there, right?

Here's a guy's perspective - of course a girl can have a blue room. I second Annette's opinion on not doing the bunk beds at this age.
