Deciding on Plumbing Fixtures

Hi,

I have 2.5 Bathrooms in my home and in the 2 full baths (upstairs), I have white fixtures. I am currently remodeling the 1/2 bath (downstairs). My question is, I have an opportunity to get a new high end Kohler toilet (San Raphael) for free, but the color is bisque (cream). Would it be weird or a bad idea if I have bisque color plumbing fixtures in the 1/2 bath and white in the 2 full baths??

since they're separated by being on 2 different floors, it'll be fine. plus there's hardly any difference in white & bisque. no one would probably even notice anyway.

 

What about faucet finishes and lighting finishes? The upstairs plumbing has chrome, but I do like the nickel finishes. Would it be odd if we used nickel finishes on the faucet and lighting?? However, the trip lever on the toilet is chrome though...Well, let me know thoughts.

generally speaking, "public" spaces can be quite a bit different in color & style than "private" spaces, in my opinion. therefore, you could certainly have chrome in the master bath, and nickel in the guest bath. your guests will never (or rather, should never) know the difference. and as long as you like them both, and it doesn't bother you that they're different, go for it. i am mostly concerned with the public rooms all flowing nicely together. what's upstairs (private rooms) shouldn't matter.

 

In choosing lighting fixtures, which do you think looks more elegant a 3 or 4 light wall sconce over a mirror or one 12" wide wall sconce over the mirror. Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions!

i think it's a matter of, how much light do you need in there? 3 or 4 light bulbs will put out a lot more light than a single light bulb. neither is more or less elegant, as the same style fixture usually comes in a single, 2, 3, or 4+ light-bulb style to suit the space or lighting need. in a master bath, the more light the better. in a little powder room, 3 or less should suffice. think proportion. you don't want overkill. but with a 2-light fixture, when one burns out, you'll at least have another one to provide enough light to change the burned out one! a single-bulb fixture.....maybe too skimpy? i have a 3-light fixture in my half bath. seems just right.
