kitchen (Decorating kitchen)

I bought a new house and I was wondering if you guys, with experience have any tips or suggestions
like about the cabinets, tiles, colour, etc etc

I think I answered that in bathrooms. How things are arranged is a decorating choice, and what you like may not be what someone else might select. But install quality items. Cabinets should have plywood boxes, and real wood dovetail drawers, no particle board. Tile is a decorating preference, but larger tiles mean fewer grout joints to collect food and stains. Laminates are inexpensive and last a long time with care. Solid surface or granite are the best choice, no seams, easy clean up, renewable surface(you will get tired of them before they wear out), but pricey.

 

Pick up some kitchen design magazines and visit showrooms to determine what appeals to you. You can purchase stock cabinets, semi-custom and custom cabinets. Choose a style that blends well with the architecture and style of your home. You can choose a natural or stained wood finish or painted or laminated cabinets.

First determine your budget for cabinets and counter. This will be the biggest factor in narrowing down your choices. Buy the best quality and warranty that you can afford. Go with a cabinet retailer and designer with whom you feel comfortable. Compare apples to apples when comparing cabinets, design, and price (installation of cabinets and counter included?).

Larger tiles seem to be hot these days in tile design. Color should be complementary to cabinets. And, like cabinets, color should tie into to color scheme and style of home.

 

Visiting show rooms and looking at on-line real estate listings helped me a lot when we redid our kitchen last year. Also, watching home reno/decorating shows when they were doing kitchens helped see different options in place. We redid everything from soup to nuts so I needed a lot of research

Ask friends, neighbours, coworkers if they've worked with a cabinet company before and if they can recommend somebody. Word-of-mouth is best, IMO.

Get tile/cabinet/countertop/paint samples and bring them home to see how things look in your own room
