Question

We recently installed laminate flooring (ALL LOC) in a medium oak shade in kitchen, dining room, and hall. Our woodwork throughout the house (doors, window frames, mouldings, etc) is a dark shade (maybe walnut)Are we going to have to paint or refinish woodwork (UGH!) or is this acceptable?

If you look in alot of the home decorating mags and on the latest shows you will find that darker wood with a lighter or even really light white washed flooring is all the rage - see you were in vogue and didn't even know it. Enjoy you new space.

hey
if the tones not the same bothers you go for it and paint the trim. the same colour as the walls is nice if the trim is something you don't want to see. you may need to sand the trim lightly so the paint will stick and not chip off.

oh my gosh--don't paint the wood!! (You don't want it to look like a 50's house)Chances are it is beautiful old growth fir or gum or mahogany. A great thing to do is brush on chemical stripper to take the old shellac off and just leave the wood natural, which if it is old construction, it will be mellow and rich, and retain its original character. Then just wax it to a luster.

Did you demo the old oak floor and replace with Pergo type wood laminate? Don't drop anything heavy on it!--it will crease and actually dent, not give like real wood
