I am refinishing kitchen cabinets that are stained/varnished and painting them gloss white. I need suggestions for products to clean them with and then repaint with. I have been reading about melamine on the net but what is melamine??? brand name or a product??? thanks

clean them with a good solution of TSP[any hardware store or walmart] light sanding is next and then prime with a "latex plastic primer" available from general paints. the cabinets can be painted with agood quality latex kitchen&bath paint. melamine is a type of paint suited for cabinets very durable

Hi there,

Instead of TSp you may use ammonia, this wat you don't have to rinse after washing. Time is money LOL. After washing you can apply a coat of EZ Bond ( eliminates the sanding) then prime with 1-2-3 primer and then two coats of eggshell latex paint. I would suggest you use a foam roller and use a brush for the rails and stiles. Any additional questions you can check at
