Paint color suggestions

Hello all,

I'm new to the boards and excited about what I may learn here. I am recently married and moved into my DH's home. Needless to say our decor taste is not the same. I am classic traditional with warm colors (earth tones with pops of red). I would like to start in our living room but have no idea what color the walls should be. I would like to paint the kitchen and dining areas as well and because it is an open space would like the walls to be a different but complementary color. Below are a few pics of the space and I greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Hi southerngirl, welcome to DIY,

You have a nice LR and I think that you should take advantage of the wood and the fireplace, making it the focal point

(SW #--> reference colors - Sherwin Williams)

The fireplace wall--> consider the use of a different color (in the right side of the 1st image, I used SW 6069 French Roast). Other option is the use of a Faux finish with a burgundy hint (in the left side of the 1st image I used Red English with clear wax sealer)
Walls--> A light brown / beige color will provide integration. In the first picture I used SW 6064 Reticence . In the second picture I used SW 6066 Sand Trap
Molding--> Consider a crown molding to enhance the wood finishing
Rug--> The rug nees to blend the reds and browns, avoiding neutral tones (see second picture)

These are more or less my suggestions

I would choose a soft sand color for the walls then use the forest green and another of your favorite colors, like blue for a serene look, apricot or terracotta for a warm, cozy look. "Arabian Nights" by Behr is a great color paint that will look great with about any color combination. Keep your walls and carpet neutral then you can change accessories (candles, flowers, throws, pillows, etc) according to the season or your mood.
