Red-tiled floors

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lbautista/4292549624

1. I'm moving into an apt. with brick-red tiled floors. The landlord is repainting the walls (currently a yellow-cream color) and I'm clueless as whether I should go with white or some other neutral. The room will be used mostly for studying (medical school) and entertaining. My desk is white and rather modern looking.

2. There is a very rough-looking entertainment center that is painted a horrible yellow. I won't be putting a TV up, so I need some ideas on how to make the middle panel look a little less like its missing a huge screen. Would painting the back walls a darker color give the room a little more depth?

thanks!

Hi loriuag, welcome to DIY

Wall color--> I'd suggest a white cream color
two ideas from the Sherwin Williams catalogue (you'll find the same colors in other brands)

SW 6007 Smart White
SW 6070 Heron Plume

Elements in the entertainment center--> set a collection or a group of tall elements (vases, ceramic bottles?) in this way, the space will look as fitting for the purpose
