Help installing granite on half wall
Hey, I'm installing a granite slab 71 inches by 10. Going to lay it over a half wall I put up it is anchored bottom and sides. As far as installing it it will be centered with about 3 inch overhang both sides. Questions are do I need to use braces? Also what should I be using to seal it to the 2x4 top. Thanks

If this is a conventional wall, 3.5 wide wall, 1 wide drywall (2 pieces) and maybe some trim 1 wide (2 pieces) then you will have an overhang of 2.25 so that is not excessive and just use a really good adhesive!

If the granite has a built-up edge (usually 5/8" high) I would lay 5/8" plywood on top of the wall and level it. You can then sit the bar top on and secure it with dabs of silicone.
If the stone is 3cm with no build up, you can level the top and cover any gaps with trim or joint compound.
Corbels or steel bars are only needed for longer overhangs, like 10" or more.

Thanks for the help!. The top I do not have drywalled could I just silicone it to the 2x4? I have made sure it is level for the top to go on. Also any recommendations on brands etc of sealant?

IMO a 2x4 is not enough to support a 10" wide top. It would work but might work loose.
Marq1 mentioned adding trim to the two sides of the wall, that would give you a wider surface.
I would cut a piece of 5/8" plywood about 7" wide and screw that into the top of the wall.
The only reason not to is if your top has no build up and you will see the edge of the plywood.
Any 100% silicone will work. If you use the plywood, you only need about 8 - 10 blobs of caulk to hold the top in place and be able to get it off.

So I received the granite it has no build up (3cm) I like the idea of plywood for security but as I sit on my couch and look over the plywood is going to be visible. Im thinking about the trim ideas underneath but don't know if i would like that or if I'm just not looking for the right trim pieces. Any suggestions? Corbels won't work as it's only a 2 1/2 inch over hang from drywall

Nothing needs to be done with 2-1/2" as long as the top is laying flat and won't tilt or rock.
