should this painting be hung higher?

I realize the canvas painting colours don't go with the colour of the wall (this is just hung temporarily). I would like to hang a canvas artwork of similar size in this space, however, I'm not sure if it should be hung higher? Or would a landscape/horizontal painting fit this wall better? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd say yes... At least 12-16" higher.

I am 5'8" tall. When standing on the landing I'd want my eye to be at about the lower 1/3 to 1/4 of the work. If my eye is at the midpoint it's too low... for me. But, your height and desires may differ.

I too think that it should be higher. My opinion but when viewing art you should be looking slightly upward. Again just my opinion but I think the handrails distract from the art. If it were higher there would be less distraction.

In my opinion the contrast with the beige walls looks good. Then of course my half Polish wife says that when it comes to color combinations I must be Polish!
