Question about winding a cuckoo clock

I have an old 8 day cuckoo clock that I just had serviced and it's running great. Have had it a long time but this is the first time we've been able to enjoy it running.

My question is, when winding the clock (pulling weights up) can I do this any time - like while it is running - or do i need to wait for it to complete its 8 day cycle and come to a stop first?

Hopefully someone who is good with cuckoo clocks
can answer for me. It is an 8 day American Cuckoo from abount 1967 I believe.

You can pull the weights to wind at any time. Just be careful not to pull them up too tight. Also when you get enough of it cuckoo-ing at night see if there is a latch to keep the door closed. I have one in my vacation home outside the bedroom door and I latch it every night.

Mine is from late 1040's Germany probably imported after WWII. My wife bought it at a garage sale.
