Question Painting Kitchen Cabinets (Particle Board?)

We are in the process of remodeling our intire kitchen. To save money we are planning on painting our kitchen cabinets. We have removed the "laminet", "veneer".

The front (trim) of the cabinets is solid wood, but the sides (the largest part of the cabinet) is particle board (pressed wood). What is the best way to paint this suface?. We have never done anything like this before. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I know that I must first sand them, to get the glue off, using a 150 gritt.

Also, we are simply replacing the cabinets doors and drawers, the surface will also be painted. My husband is going to purchase the sheets of wood (not particle board!), he will rout the design, and we will simply paint them.

Thank you so much!.

Covering exposed particleboard cabinets sides

Exposed ends of cabinets can be covered with "end skins" (thin wood veneer). .
