ceramic tiling question
I have a couple of questions about tiling:
I am installing my last piece of cement board over the shower faucet area. The shower faucet has a plastic cover to put over the unit while working and to make the finished wall flush with this plastic cover. My question is what is the thickness of thinset mortar once tile is applied to it? I know the thickness of my 1/2 inch cement board and I know the thickness of my tile. I will be using 1/4 inch by 1/4 trowel. I just want to make sure I will be able to make the finished wall flush with this cover on the shower faucet.
Also I have a question about tiling the ceiling area. I plan on using thinset to install the tile but I have worries that the tile might fall due to gravity. The tiles I will be using are 6x8.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.

jd442,
Don't worry if the black plastic guide is below the finished flush surface. You'll have room to adjust, at least a 1/2" minimum, when you put your finished face plate on.
You'll be in good shape!
Good Luck!

jd442,
I would definitely use mastic. The adhesion quality will make the installation of ceiling tile much easier. I assume we are using smaller tiles on the ceiling or are we using similar size?
I hope smaller otherwise you may have a problem with them staying in place. Key is to use enough for it to adhere with a slight twist when installing. Don't overdo with excessive mastic!
Hope this helps!
