We have removed some broken tiles from our ~1950s shower stall in a 1906 house. The tiles look like they are attached to concrete about one-and-a-half inches thick. Some of the concrete/backing is broken (a handrail obviously had pulled away), so we are not sure what to do to fill in the holes and treat the surface so that the replacement tiles will adhere. Also there are gaps in the wall where there is not any concrete, should we try to squeeze some into those gaps? Do we need to scrape the concrete surface so that the tiles will stick? If so, how much needs to be scraped off so that the tiles will be relatively level with the rest? What tool is used to scrape concrete? Also in a few spots along the edges of two walls there are a series of large, uncovered screws, one is just above the floor and one is on the surface where the spray hits direct from the showerhead. Will covering them with caulk be enough? We can't figure out why they are there. One more thought, some tiles have surface glazing that is cracked/chipped or deeply scratched, yet the ceramic itself is entire; they are also in spots that are - of course- difficult to remove without damaging others. Is there anything we can cover the cracks with to prevent possible water seepage? Thanks much

I have started to notice lately that when I stand in the shower, the center of the tub squeeks and the tub floor seems 'mushy' (the outer edges of the tub floor feel firm). I have one of those one piece deep soaking tubs with an overhead shower with glass doors. The tub is (I think) plastic. The condo I own is nearly 7 years old. I've been standing on the floor edges of the tub when I shower avoiding the center, but I'd like to get it fixed before it becomes a major problem. Upon inspection today, I just noticed that the faucet is not caulked to the wall and I'm wondering if maybe water has gotten in there and I have wood rot on the tub frame work? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me. If I do have wood rot, how complex is it to have fixed? Would I need a plumber or a contractor to remedy this?
