Glass shower door installation

I have a Lasco 1603 shower and a new Holcam shower door. The door is a hinge-on-panel swinging door. The instructions say to mark holes in the shower enclosure, drill, pound in plastic anchors, then screw jambs to shower wall through anchors. The problem with my setup is that there is nothing but air where the shower door jambs need to be attached to the enclosure. What is the best method to attach the jambs to the enclosure? I have considered toggle bolts (will they damage the backing of the fiberglass shower?) Any ideas?

Thanks guys.

Glass shower door installation

Bob,

I took a look at the Holcam Model MX and X and what you describe is no different that most shower door installation. You will not have any problem using the plastic anchors through the fiberglass material of your Lasco unit. Ensure that you drill the right size holes and you will not have any worries. Lasco is one of the better units around where the wall panels are strong.

Apply caulk to the outside only. I did notice that Holcam suggests not caulking the inside. Sterling doors require caulking the interior but this is different.

Just install it and enjoy your shower!

Hope this helps!

Just so you know, I have an A-12 w/ hinge on panel with a header. Still think just a plastic anchor into the (relatively) thin fiberglass walls is ok? Thanks for the reply.

A-12 OK

Bob,

No problem, don't worry. Remember that you have a bottom track and the header. When these are cut to proper lengths and installed, they also releive any stress on the fiberglass panels. The top and bottom are screwed into the corners of the side rails.

Lasco has great products and I have never had a problem with installation of doors. I do alot of these for one contractor let alone all the years working in property management as a Maint. Supervisor. He always calls me to install, it's a great relief from the computer.

It will work great, trust me!

Good Luck!

Thanks alot, Doug! I will finish the install tomorrow! I put it off this a.m. after seeing the anchors. The hardest part of cutting and radiusing the threshold is done now.

Success!

Thanks Doug,

I just followed the easy instructions, used the hollow wall anchors and the door look GREAT! In terms of appearance, apparent quality of materials (time will tell on this one), ease of installation, and well.....everything...this unit has exceeded my expectations dramatically. I just thought I would fill you guys in on the end of the story. I wouldn't hesitate a bit to wholeheartedly recommend Holcam products (or at least an A12 model) to anyone. Mine is great!
