gap between tub and wall
#1

I would like to remove the plastic tub surround and tile the walls. I have already removed part of the metal frame for the old glass shower doors but in doing so the surround cracked and broke. It appears to hide a gap of approx. 1" between the wall and the tub. The last person to work on the tub used massive amounts of caulk to close the gap along the side of the tub and there is some dry paste like substance that was behind the surround. Is there a proper way to close the gap between the wall and the vertical side of the tub; and how do I close the gap along the top once the surround is removed?

silverfish72,
I am not sure as to what you have now, a 1 pc tub shower surround that was undersized or a 3 pc that was a rigid type that was just installed wrong.
The 1" gap seems to be confusing as to why you have it but regardless, you mentioned that you want to remove it all and tile the walls. First off, the prepare for the tiling must be done and you should make sure that you have the walls ready. I have attached some links for you to give assistance if needed;
