Matching plaster wall thickness

Matching plaster wall thickness
I'm replacing the bottom foot of a plaster wall. I've put up a layer of 1/2" sheetrock, but it doesn't make up the depth of the plaster wall. What can I use to finish off the sheetrock to get it to the same thickness as the plaster wall? Also, I need to install ceramic tile over the new construction.
Maybe I should just take out the sheetrock and try my hand at plastering. Would this be easier?
TIA ... Chris

clhawkins01,
Since you have removed the plaster, easiest way I know of is to cut small 2x4 stock to fit your opening and install this next to existing studs. It's easy and fast. Determine the distance the new 2x4 has to be placed for your drywall thickness at the top, then anchor the top. With a level on the new 2x4, then anchor the bottom to your existing stud.
Hope this helps!

You're welcome! This will make it easier to do your taping, if applicable then your tile. Did you need infor on tile installation?
