Question Wonderboard

I am in the process of re-tiling my shower. After researching DIY, I would rather be safe than sorry. This may be a stupid question, but can I apply the mastic to the wonderboard or do I need to put backer board over the wonderboard before I use mastic? Thanks for your help.

DON'T use mastic !! It will not stand the test of time. Mastic is water-based, and when it gets wet, it will loosen and tiles will fall off. Mastic is only used on walls that don't get really wet (like a kitchen back splash).

Use a thinset bonding mortar (i.e., Versibond, Flexbond).

Your wonderboard is a cement-based product, correct? If so, this is good.

Do not use "greenboard" in enclosures that get water (shower surround).
