Vinyl tile over ceramic tile

I would like to put vinyl tiles or sheet vinyl over my ceramic tiles. What prep needs to be done.

Why you would want to put vinyl over ceramic is beyond me. However, it's your house and you have the rite to do whatever you want.

Before anything else, you have to make the surface flat for the vinyl flooring. This can be done two ways. 1- Remove the ceramic tile and adhesive left on the sub floor. Or 2- Cover the existing floor with a thin layer of plywood. Option number 1 is the better of the two. A lot of work and mess, but will assure a smooth surface to which you can attach your new floor. Option number 2 would be easier, but you'll have to find some way to attach the wood to the ceramic tile so your new floor doesn't move.
