I am interested in learning what is involved in remodeling a tub/shower. We would like to install a shower only stall. I want to use ceramic tile, not a prefab stall. What do I need to install beneath the ceramic tiles on the base? Is there anything that needs to come between the drywall and the ceramic tile? Any ballpark idea on cost?

Thumbs up

There are special rubber membranes that go under the floor of the shower. These should be available from your tile shop.

Also, you should use cement backer board instead of drywall for the walls. This again is water proof and will allow your shower to last for years.

Your local tile shop should be a source for both these items.
