Leaks around toilet tank washers
#1

I have replaced the worn out washers around the bolts that hold the tank to the bowl. I can't seem to get them to stop leaking. Is there a secret? I used washers both inside and outside of the tank, and made sure the washers were next to the porcelen on both sides. Thanks for any help.

There could be a mineral buildup on the holes. First drain the tank, then remove the bolts and using fine sandpaper, clean out the area around the holes.
Another thing that might help is to put a bit of silicone caulk on the bottom of the rubber washer before you screw it down. This should help fill in any irregulatities in the bottom of the tank. Give it an hour or more before you turn the water on to give the silicone a chance to set up.
