backer board

I have read that green backer board should not be used around the tub and shower area.
What do you suggest? Also, does anyone have an opinion on the tileboard product PlyGem?
Thanks!

Opinison will vary as much if not more that materials available.
The current favorite backer material for around tubs and showers is cenent board.
We used green board when we installed our new tub/shower because it was a fiberglass unit that was completely sealed. No need for the cement board.
The backing depends upon the application.
