Thickness of bathroom wall

I am about to start rough plumbing of the bath I am building in the basement. I read in some sources that it is important to know thickness of bathroom finished wall and shower surrounding before starting rough plumbing for shower, toilet and lavatory. I want to put tiles for shower surroundings and bathroom wall and ceramic tile on the floor. I have not decided yet which tile to put. does tile have standard thickness or it varies? Is it possible based on my info to determine total thickness from stud level to edge of tile for walls, shower surroundings and floor?

agalkin,

I am providing links to some articles that should help. You will have to break out the pencil and paper to figure what you are doing and add up dimensions.

SHOWER FAUCET ASSEMBLY EXAMPLE -

Note you have approx. 2" of play on your placement of this within the wall.
