Single Handle vs Two Handle Tub Shower Faucet

I have a Two Handle tub/shower faucet. I'm thinking about replacing it with a Single handle faucet. Two Questions:

1. Can this be done without major modifications to plumbing or walls?
2. Is there any advantage or disadvantage with one over the other?

Thanks

Cool

A matter of preference, although I prefer single-handle controls.
You can get replacement single handle faucets with large estucheon plates to cover the two-handle hole layout that can be installed from the shower side without tearing into the wall behind it. Look for them at plumbing supply houses.
Good Luck!
