Best paint

What type of paint or, if allowed, what brand of paint is best for a bathroom? My wife and I painted our bathroom a few years ago with what we thought was good bathroom paint but it has failed in ways that don't seem right for special paint; mainly peeling, checking. We believe the bathroom is ventilated properly but this damage seems to be mostly around the shower area. Not so much from direct water contact but steam from shower. Is there a better way? Thank you.

Perhaps it wasn't the paint....but the prep. I am guilty of not reading the prep directions on paint cans because I just want to get the job done. Good luck.

You might be right on the prep not being all it should be although the rest of thebathroom is doing good just around the shower area is where the problem exists. Maybe a better question is what can I do about the peeling and checking of the paint? It's not a very big area so I could sand it but is that the best way to do it? Thanks for your help!
