Shower Tub bar replacement

I have a fiberglass shower tub with a plastic grab bar built into the tub itself. The bar is severely cracked and flaking apart. I was wondering how to fix this and put in a new plastic bar? Where would you find such a replacement and how would you fix it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Snoren,
-was this bar molded in with the original layup, or was it a separate piece attached after the original molding. (You should be able to see joint lines, etc if the latter)

No, the bar is not molded into the tub shell. It feeds into a hole on each end and there is a rubber seal around the bar at the hole.

snoren,

Short of replacement of the whole unit, or removal of the unit and trying to contact the company who made it to get a new bar, I would suggest calling a professional that deals with fiberglass tub/shower repair. Look in the phone book. This would be the best suggestion.

Good Luck!
