Can I attach beadboard?

I am trying to spruce up a sad powder room. I was thinking of putting beadboard along the lower third of the wall. I took off the wallpaper last night and discovered that the whole wall is chip board. I am assuming that is what I am called. It is very thin and looks like the fake marble that you would see in school bathrooms in the 70's. It does not seem very stable. I know I can not attach tile to it, but am wondering if beadboard would work. Home Depot sells beadboard that is very thin- it is too light to be MDF, I think. I don't think I could nail the beadboard into the chipboard, I don't see what all of the nails would attach to. Can I liquid nail it, or would I have to take down the chip board and put up drywall?

Thanks!
Kelly

I would use a construction adhesive (like Liquid Nails) to attach the bead board.
