Microhood depth vs. cabinet depth

I am looking at microhoods to go over my range. I have (what I presume to be) standard 12" depth wall cabinets. All of the microhoods I have seen are 15 - 17" deep, however. If I want the front of the microwave to be flush with the cabinet doors am I supposed to cut a hole in the dry wall and mount it directly on the studs? Do microhoods always stick out? Do I have non-standard wall cabinets? I'm a complete rookie at this and appreciate your feedback.

DM,

Yes, they do stick out but it's not an eyesore. Cutting out drywall and mounting it to the studs would be a bad idea - any fire would take a toll on your home - It would be a Code violation. Besides, 1/2" isn't that much for what you are desiring.

take a look at this - GE model installation instructions -

Hope this helps!
