Granite too heavy for cabinets?

Hello,

We are looking at changing countertop surfaces for a small kitchen in a condomium. We had formica and cabinets installed 14 years ago, long before granite was popular. The cabinetry is in great shape, so we're keeping them. My question is can they handle the weight of granite countertops? Or asked another way, are cabinets typically installed to handle just about any surface weight?

Is Corian lighter than granite?

Thanks a bunch.

Yes, Corian is lighter than granite. It's also fake and it's NOT between 10 and 15 million years old. It doesn't hold up like granite, it doesn't increase your homes value like granite and it's not something that is pleasing to just look at -- like granite.

Sorry, can you tell I favor natural stone???

Yes, your cabinets will do fine.
