Exclamation Help with Jacuzzi tub

I am about to begin gutting my bathroom. I already have purchased a jacuzzi tub drop in insert. This is my "cherry" for this size job.

I have 2 questions.
1- should I tile BEFORE I set the insert into the structural frame work I have to build?
2- Can anyone suggest a mid-priced alternative to tile around the tub? Wife has now changed her mind and wants to come up with something different. I am supposed to begin this project this week.

1.Yes! Tile first. Then the tub rim sits on top and is caulked. Cleaner appearance and way better moisture control.
2.Marble or granite instead of tile. Yeah, they seem spendy but a tub deck and apron aren't alot of area. Both materials come in alot of colors.
Other tips:
Check your clearances very carefully. Often the overflow must be notched into the opening.
Leave room to bed the fixture in grout or Structolite for support.
Make sure you have access to the motor and pump. It's required by code and simplifies setting the fixture.
