What size notched trowel for 12 inch tile?

WHat size notched trowel should I used for putting down my thinset? I'm installing 12 inch tiles over concrete (well, over self leveling compound actually...)

Thanks!!

(also: What size grout lines do most folks use for 12 inch tile...? I know it's pretty much personal preference, I'm just wondering if there's a "usual" size..)

1/4x3/8" square notch. I do hope for your sake that you used the primer with the self leveling cement and that you dammed the perimeter of the pour to ensure the proper expansion gaps where the pour hit walls or pipe protrusions.

Grout lines for rectified 12x12's, 1/8". All other 12x12's, 3/16" leaves ample spacing to hide the size variations between the tiles and maintain uniform appearance of the grout lines. 1/4" looks too grouty. Don't grout the perimeter or have tile butt to the walls. You need to maintain the perimeter expansion gap. Afterwards, caulk it or cover with base.

Thanks for the info!!

Yep, followed the directions for the self leveling compound.. (primed, damed..etc), Actually had to do it twice.. ("Self" leveling is kind of a misnomer) I called the company and talked to them about it after the first time didn't exactly turn out the way I had envisioned...

OK, I get the 1/4 x 3/8ths or 1/4 x 1/4, but what's 1/4 x 1/4 x 3/8ths?
