removing side panel from cultured marble tub

I'm installing new faucet fixture on my cultured marble roman tub. I need to remove the cultured marble side panel to access the plumbing valve. The panel is one piece the length of tub and about 12 inches high. Any suggestions on how to remove panel without breaking the cultured marble?

It is possible to remove the panel, and just as likely you will break it getting it off. Is there no way to access this valve from behind, in an adjacent room or closet? A sheetrock repair is much more desirable than finding out you broke the marble, and can't replace it.
