I have a 90 yr old solid brick house. When my contractor removed my old kitchen cabinets, he tore the cabinets out, the soffits above them, the ceiling and walls. Behind the old walls were real basic furring strips, about 1" wide by 1/4" thick (deep). These ran up and down the walls right in front of the brick. There was only about 1.5-2" total depth. He then placed new drywall up on the furring strips and told me my walls were ready for the local kitchen cabinetry store to come and install my new cabinets. I am not very smart with home renovating, and that is why I hired the contractor. However, after reading my cabinetry's installation instructions, I am now very concerned. Since there are no studs in my walls, just the furring strips, what in the world are these very heavy 42" high wall cabinets supposed to mount to? The instructions call for screws going 1" into the studs in more than one place to prevent the cabinets from "falling off the wall" and also advise to mount them to a side wall or ceiling as well. Well, the soffits are gone (which I now realize were proberly installed to give the previous wall cabinets something sturdy to mount to) and all I have is the new drywall which is mounted to these rather wimpy looking old furring strips. I assume I have a major problem and may need to have all the walls torn down, new studs installed and then new drywall again. Am I overreacting? Can these cabinets be mounted to the drywall and the furring strips behind them or does it look like I will be having an uncomfortable conversation with my contractor? Also, if I do have to have this conversation about re-doing the job, I can just hear the contractor saying "well you did not specify those requirements and since your cabinet dealer is installing the cabinets I am not responsible." I've already spent over $10,000 on the demolition and new walls, now what do I do? Someone please help or tell me it will be okay Thanks KL

with a tile flange tub do you rest the durock on the top of the flange ,or do you space it at all.. thanks
