installing bath fan?
In order to install a bath fan in a main floor bathroom with a finished floor above it, is it an acceptable practise to drill a 4" plus hole through a rim joist?? my regular joists appear to measure 7.5"x1.75" so I would assume the rim joist would be the same...
thanks

Yes, but you will have to drill a 4 1/4" hole in order to run your duct out. Just didn't want you to drill a 4" and stand there not being able to run the duct and install the cap without problems. And you rim joist may be doubled, so be ready to remove a blank prior to finishing the hole.
