IKEA Kitchen Drawers

We just went to an IKEA store for the first time. Wow!! Anyway, they have a very interesting system for their kitchen drawers. The faces are wood, but the interior are metal. They are on very solid looking gliders. This system and materials allow the drawers to be pulled all the way out without compromising the strength. They claim that you can put a lot of weight in the drawers and they will hold up.

Anyway, does anyone have any real experience with living with these drawers? How to the really stand up to the test of time and use?

Thanks, Mary

What is the warranty on the drawer box? How many pounds is it warranted to hold? Most of the better manufactured cabinets offer lifetime warranty on drawer boxes and 100# weight drawers.

I don't know where everyone sees the nice stuff at IKEA, but
every time we've gone in to check out Kitchen stuff, all the drawers and hinges felt really cheap to us. We walked through just about every model kitchen they have set up, and all the drawers feel wobbly and the door fronts look cheap.

I'm not saying IKEA doesn't have good things, but what models and what cabinet lines are you referring to?

Thanks

It's called the Akurum kitchen system. This is how they describe their drawers in their specs:

Drawer/ Drawer back: Steel, Pigmented epoxy/polyester powder coating
Drawer bottom: Particleboard, Melamine foil, Laminate (melamine foil)
Runners: Galvanized steel

Deep fully-extending drawer:

They have a ten year warrenty. Here is their site:
