Moving acrylic bathtub about 15"

Hello,

I recently had a contractor install a new whirlpool tub (in a gutted bathroom). I had asked him to place it about 15" away from the rear wall of the bathroom as my ceiling is on an angle and I was concerned about headroom. He assured me that I didn't want deadspace behind the tub and everything was going to be ok with it pushed against the wall.

Well, its not ok.

There is not enough height in the rear wall for the shower curtain to be placed above my head, and I'm not very tall. So now the tub must be moved and I am battling the contractor who now says its my fault, even though he swore up and down that "everything will be alright!".

So... how hard would it be to move a tub? I have framed out many a room and feel comfortable redoing the surround, but have no expierence with plumbing. I know the tub has a mortor base, would this stop me or can I remove this without damaging the tub itself? Is leveling a tub difficult? There is room for the plumbing to be moved, so that shouldnt be an issue.

I know this is lot, but can any here give me any insights or concerns that I should be aware of?

Thanks,
Jamie

If the original plan said put here, and he said put it there and you agree, it should have been in writing. Legally with out a document, you are SOL. But, IMHO, if he said it would be OK, is is his responsibility to make it OK, since it obviously is not. Getting him to do it is the problem. How far done is the project?? If the project is essentially done, it could get expensive and messy to undo framing and floors.

Yeah, I have a feeling that I'm outta luck on this one too. I'm just annoyed that this company can charge 6500 to do all this work that now has to be undone because of their inability to forsee problems with the layout.

I had my orignal plan in writing and that is what was presented to the company. They called me on my cell while I was at work to say that the tub should go against the back wall. How they didnt notice that there wasn't suffiencent head room boggles my mind.

If I did my job the way that these contractors do theirs I'd probably be unemployed. These guys work without consequences. Must be nice.

Know a good lawyer, it might only take a letter of persuasion to get something going.
