Unhappy Jacuzzi tub with no shower!

2001 mfg. home - ordered with jacuzzi tub in master bath - but didn't realize shower would be omitted! Tub is 42x60, with about 12" back splash. Wall height (about back splash) 64" - 76". I don't think walls are 'waterproof' material. Faucet & controls in jacuzzi tub. So -- IF I want to add a shower, is this going to be a major project? Do I have to install CBU first? Not sure if I want to do ceramic tile, or if tub surround is available. Obviously have to remove one wall to add plumbing to install shower head?? (I'm thinking maybe this is major enough that I'll end up doing just what I have been -- when I want to use shower I use the guest bathroom....) I doubt this is a project I want to try to tackle myself so any idea of approximate cost?

Yeah, they normally don't put showers in jacuzzi tubs. It either looks like a tub or a shower, and the manufacturers think it looks better as a tub.
You will have to gain access to the wall where you want your shower, install a diverter valve and shower head pipe, attaching them to studs or other framework. Attaching the pipe to your mixing valve will be the bear, as the water has to be mixed at the valve before it goes to the shower. Look at your valve and see if there is another take off that you can connect a 1/2" male or female adapter to. This will be your key. If none exists, and you don't want to change the mixing valve, then the guest bathroom is a great place to shower.
