Bathroom tile

I'm getting ready to install a new shower base as part of a bathroom reno. The base has a curved outer edge. I'm thinking of tiling before installing the base so that I'll get a clean joint between the base and the tile. The only method I have to cut curves in the tile is with nippers.

Is there any reason why the shower base can't sit on tile/backerboard with caulk between it and the floor?

You can do this, but you will have to equalize the rest of the base with extra thinset, as placing the edge on tile will cause an unequal levelness.
