kitchen island range ventilation

I am remodeling a house and will be installing a modern island range ventilation hood. I have removed the old range hood and there is an existing 6" duct. How are the modern hoods installed? Are they just hung from the ceiling which I would think would allow them to move quite a bit. Is there some type of internal framing that provides stability?

Do you have any cabinets over the range area? They will give rigidity. Otherwise, a vent hood with its own "cabinet" surround, properly framed from the ceiling will prevent the sway you describe. We mostly install downdraft in middle islands with no overhead cabinetry.
